Six of the most frequently asked questions in 2023
In December last year, we asked our Exterior Solutions Specialist Michael Denyer to answer some of the most frequently asked questions from our projects in 2022.
And to round off this year, we thought we’d do the same based on our projects in 2023. Here are some of the questions we’ve been regularly asked over the last 12 months.
Do all canopies require weather flashing?
No, this will depend on the style of canopy. Lean-to’s require no additional flashing as they’re fitted directly to the exterior wall. All other canopies will be supplied with an aluminium flashing to match the canopy.
Can we have a lead flashing?
You can, but we don’t recommend this as the lead will stain the roof covering. We will always suggest the aluminium flashing as it can be colour matched to the canopy, does not stain and is a far neater option.
Do you provide drawings?
We do. All canopies have CAD drawings that are signed off prior to manufacture. They also show the positions for the post foundations that will be required.
How far below FFL (finished floor level) do the foundations need to be?
Unless otherwise stated, we mount the post plate 100mm below FFL. However, if you want the drainage to connect to an underground service, then it will would need to be 350mm below FFL.
Do foundations need to be level?
As long as they are within the recommended levels of 100mm from the drawings, then no, as we trim the legs to be level on site. Anything more than this needs to be advised on the sign off of the drawings.
Can we complete the surface when the legs are installed?
No, we need to finish installing the canopy frame before any surfacing is done, to ensure the ground is square.
