Waverley supplied & installed a free-standing aluminium canopy for Beardwell Construction as part of a refurbishment and extension project at this progressive primary school.

The existing building presented a design challenge with the position of existing external solar shading fins meaning that the canopy would have to over sail the fins to provide adequate protection in wet weather.

Waverley installed a ‘goal-post’ frame using 110 x 110mm box section powder-coated to match the canopy. This frame supported the canopy roof from underneath allowing it to over-sail the solar fins by approx. 1m and then project a further 4m into the playground. Three posts mounted below ground to concrete padstones support the canopy along the front. At 8m in length, the canopy provides 40 sqm of covered learning space.

The Weatherspan system is a modular design made up using a number of sluminium extrusions. Waverley keeps all extrusions in stock so lead times can be a matter of days rather than weeks for a canopy. No bespoke engineering or fabrication costs make the Weatherspan system a very competitive alternative to steel canopies.
