2023 Project Review

By: Oli Birch Category: External Solutions

To kickstart the new year, we took some time to reflect on an incredibly busy 2023 earlier this week, asking our Exterior Solutions Specialist, Michael Denyer, to pick out five of his favourite projects from the last 12 months.

Ranging from hospitality to education, we’ve helped to enhance the outdoor spaces across a wide range of industries.

Seaford College

I love the finish of this job. Measuring 24.m x 3.5m, we fitted this L-shaped WeatherSpan® Lean-to Canopy to their Year 11 Common Room area, complete with zip blinds and balustrade. The project encompassed everything we offer in a job, starting with a no-obligation site survey, followed by a CGI mock up of the project, installation and maintenance. We’ll be adding this to the case study section of our website this year.

Alresford Golf Club

We’ve been quite vocal about our project for Alresford Golf Club as it acts as the perfect example of a venue using external shelters to overcome an issue.

In this case, the golf club were experiencing problems with glare and heat gain entering the bar area during the winter and summer months respectively. Meanwhile, their patio area did not have sufficient covered seating. We designed and installed six of our Liberta Retractable Roof Systems, each with its own method of operation to allow for a personalised experience. We were also delighted to sponsor the 18th hole of their annual Pro-Am competition in September 2023! You can read all about the case study here.

Rochester Riverside

Another project I can’t wait to add to the website this year is Rochester Riverside School. Located next to the River Medway, the school required two canopies for the entrance and the first floor walkway. We worked closely with architects Bond Bryan throughout the project, especially with regards to the L-shaped canopy on the first floor with a large fascia.

Heltwate School

Our project with Heltwate highlights how to maximise spaces in different areas using a combination of external shelters.

Firstly, we installed three WeatherSpan® Free-standing canopies with post protectors for the ground floor areas directly outside the classrooms, providing an ideal space for outdoor learning in a safe space.

Their upper balcony area was a different proposition. Here, we designed and installed four Weinor Awnings to provide cover for the breakout space. All systems on the project were specifically colour matched to suit the school colours.

Graven Hill

Last but by no means least is the five WeatherSpan® Free-standing Canopies we installed at Graven Hill School. We worked hard over the summer to ensure all five systems were installed snag free ahead of the school’s opening in 2023. The drone shots of the canopies look great!
